Privacy Policy
OpenWorlds, by Scout Social LLC. Last updated November 6, 2026.
OpenWorlds is an app for making invitations with living backgrounds and collecting replies. Scout Social LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, runs it. We keep what the app needs to work and nothing else. We don't run ads, we don't use analytics or tracking tools, and we don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
1. What stays on your phone
Your invitations and drafts, photos you add, and your profile name and picture are saved on your device. If you delete the app, they go with it.
The app asks for a few permissions, each only when you use the feature that needs it:
- Photos and camera, to use a picture as a background or as your profile photo. The picture stays on your phone.
- Contacts, only through your phone's own contact picker when you choose people to text. The app receives just the phone numbers you pick, uses them to open your Messages app, and doesn't keep them.
- Location, if you tap Current Location while adding a place. Your phone's maps service (Apple or Google) turns it into an address; we don't receive or keep it.
- Calendar, to add events to a calendar you choose. Entries are written on your phone.
- Motion sensors, so backgrounds respond when you tilt your phone. The readings never leave the device.
2. What we keep on our servers
- Your account. Your email address, your name if you give it, and an account ID, so you can sign in. Passwords are handled by Amazon Cognito and we never see them. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the email Apple shares with us, which may be a private relay address.
- Invitations you send, and your guests' replies. When you send an invitation, its details (title, date, place, description, background) are stored so guests can open it. Guests give a name, and their replies and messages are stored with the invitation so you and they can see them. Guests don't need an account. These conversations are deleted automatically 60 days after they start. Previews you make with "Preview Guest Experience" are deleted after one day.
- Your membership. Whether you have an active membership, when it renews, how many invitations you've sent this month, and the purchase reference from the App Store or Google Play that lets us confirm it. Apple or Google handles the payment itself; we never see your card.
- Security records. To prevent abuse, such as repeated sign-in attempts or automated requests, we briefly count requests per network address. These counts expire within hours. Our servers also keep short technical logs (time, request type, errors) for up to 14 days to fix problems.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the conversation only as long as we need it to help you.
3. How we use it
Only to run OpenWorlds: to sign you in, deliver invitations and replies, confirm and apply your membership and monthly limit, keep the service secure, answer you when you contact us, and meet legal obligations. We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you or your guests.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run OpenWorlds for us under contract: Amazon Web Services (hosting, sign-in and storage, in the United States) and Cloudflare (delivering our website).
- Apple or Google, to confirm purchases, and Apple to sign you in if you choose Sign in with Apple.
- Your guests, who see the invitation you send them and, depending on your settings, the guest list and replies.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety, and a buyer or successor if OpenWorlds is ever transferred, under this policy.
5. How long we keep it
- Guest conversations: 60 days from when they start. Previews: 1 day.
- Account and membership records: until you delete your account.
- Abuse counters: a few hours. Technical logs: up to 14 days.
- Records we must keep by law (for example about purchases): as long as the law requires.
6. Your choices and rights
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, then Delete Account) or by following our account deletion steps. Deleting your account removes your sign-in, membership record and sending history from our servers. Invitations already sent stay viewable by their guests until they expire, at most 60 days later. Cancelling a membership is done through the App Store or Google Play.
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct, delete or send you a copy of it, by writing to privacy@scoutsocialco.com. We'll answer within 30 days, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
California and other US states
Residents of California and other states with privacy laws have the rights to know, access, correct and delete their personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We don't sell or share personal information in those ways, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer things about you. You or an authorized agent can make a request at privacy@scoutsocialco.com; we may need to confirm your identity. If we refuse a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland
OpenWorlds is run from the United States, so your information is processed there. We rely on our contract with you to provide the service you asked for, and on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure. You have the rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
7. Age
OpenWorlds accounts are for people 18 or older (or the age of majority where they live). We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child's information has reached us, write to privacy@scoutsocialco.com and we'll delete it.
8. Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is limited to what each part of the service needs. No system is perfect, but we work to keep yours safe, and we'll tell you if a breach affects your information as the law requires.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and for anything significant we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
