Terms of Use
OpenWorlds, by Scout Social LLC. Last updated November 6, 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Scout Social LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("we", "us"), about the OpenWorlds apps for iPhone and Android, our websites and the services behind them (together, "OpenWorlds"). By using OpenWorlds you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use OpenWorlds.
1. What OpenWorlds is
OpenWorlds lets you make invitations with living, animated backgrounds, share them with the people you choose, and collect their replies. Guests can open an invitation and reply without an account. We don't organize, host or attend the events people invite each other to.
We may change, add or remove features at any time. If a change takes away something you pay for, we'll tell you in the app first.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to create an account or buy a membership. By creating an account you confirm that you are. Guests who open an invitation you send are your guests; please don't use OpenWorlds to collect information from children.
3. Your account
You sign in with Apple or with an email address. Give us accurate information, keep your sign-in secure and tell us at hello@scoutsocialco.com if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person, please, and don't create accounts for other people without their permission.
4. Membership
- What it includes. Sending invitations needs an OpenWorlds Membership. It currently includes 10 invitations each calendar month, up to 500 guests per invitation, every live background and the guest reply experience. Making, editing and previewing invitations is free. Unused invitations don't carry over to the next month.
- Billing. The membership is an auto-renewing monthly subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, at the price shown before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account when you confirm the purchase, and it renews automatically each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in your Apple or Google subscription settings. You keep the membership until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Apple and Google handle all payments and refunds under their own policies; we can't issue refunds directly. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
- Offer codes and free periods. We may give out codes or free periods. They're redeemed through Apple or Google, have no cash value, and turn into a paid membership at the end of the free period unless you cancel before it ends.
- Price changes. If the price changes, Apple or Google will tell you in advance and, where required, ask for your consent before charging the new price.
5. Your invitations and content
You own what you put into OpenWorlds: event details, text, photos and messages ("your content"). To run the service you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, display and transmit your content, only as needed to operate OpenWorlds: for example, to show your invitation and replies to the guests you send it to. This license ends when your content is deleted, except for copies kept in routine backups for a short time or where the law requires us to keep them.
You confirm that you have the rights to everything you add, including photos of other people, and that your content follows these terms and the law. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
6. Inviting people responsibly
You decide who receives your invitations, and you send them yourself through your own Messages, Mail or share apps. Only invite people you know or who expect to hear from you. You may not use OpenWorlds to:
- send spam, bulk unsolicited messages or advertising, or invitations to people who have asked you to stop;
- harass, threaten, deceive or impersonate anyone, or share someone's private information without permission;
- promote or organize anything illegal, or events or content that are hateful, violent, sexually explicit or involve minors in any harmful way;
- collect guests' information for purposes other than your event;
- upload malware or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
You're responsible for your event, for what you tell guests, and for complying with any laws that apply to it.
7. Using the service fairly
Use OpenWorlds for personal invitations, as we intend it to be used. Don't:
- copy, reverse engineer or decompile the apps, including with AI tools, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- use bots, scrapers or automated tools to access OpenWorlds, or use material taken that way to train or improve any AI or machine-learning system;
- get around sign-in, membership checks, invitation limits, rate limits or other protections;
- copy or imitate our animated backgrounds or offer a substitute service built from OpenWorlds;
- put an unreasonable load on our systems or interfere with other people's use.
8. Our property
OpenWorlds, its name and logo, its animated backgrounds, designs, software and everything else we create belong to Scout Social LLC or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the apps on devices you own or control, under these terms and the app store's rules. You get no other rights in OpenWorlds.
9. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on OpenWorlds infringes your copyright, send a notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512 to our designated agent: DMCA Department, Scout Social LLC, 8 The Green #26618, Dover, DE 19901, or dmca@scoutsocialco.com. Include your signature; the work you say is infringed; where the material is (for example, the invitation link); your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you're authorized to act for the owner.
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent with your signature, what was removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe it was removed by mistake, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or Delaware, if you're outside the US). We'll forward it to the person who complained and may restore the content 10 to 14 business days later unless they tell us they've gone to court. We close the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
10. Ending things
You can stop using OpenWorlds and delete your account at any time (Settings, then Delete Account). We may suspend, limit or close your account, or remove content, if you break these terms, if we need to protect guests, other users or OpenWorlds, or if the law requires it. Where it's reasonable we'll tell you why. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund any unused paid time where we're able to through Apple or Google. Sections 5 (feedback), 8, and 11 to 16 continue to apply after your account ends.
11. Disclaimers
OpenWorlds is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don't promise that OpenWorlds will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that invitations or replies will always be delivered.
We aren't responsible for events, for what hosts or guests do or say, or for anything that happens at or because of an event, including injury, loss or damage. You attend and host events at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, you release us from claims arising from events, hosts, guests, venues and third-party sites or services linked from an invitation. If you're a California resident, you waive California Civil Code § 1542, which says: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party."
12. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Scout Social LLC and its members, officers, employees and agents won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from or related to OpenWorlds or these terms, whatever the legal theory, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims related to OpenWorlds is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount you paid for OpenWorlds in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Some places don't allow some of these limits; where that's the case, they apply only as far as the law permits.
13. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of your content, your event, your use of OpenWorlds or your breach of these terms or of someone's rights, you'll defend and compensate Scout Social LLC and its members, officers, employees and agents for the resulting losses and costs, including reasonable attorneys' fees.
14. Disputes
Talk to us first. Before starting any legal proceeding, send a written description of the problem to legal@scoutsocialco.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it. Either of us may start formal proceedings only after that.
Courts. Any dispute will be decided exclusively by the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court where it qualifies.
No juries or class actions. To the extent the law allows, you and we each waive the right to a jury trial, and claims may be brought only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your home country gives you protections that can't be waived.
16. Apple and Google
If you got OpenWorlds from the Apple App Store:
- These terms are between you and Scout Social LLC, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for OpenWorlds and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for OpenWorlds.
- If OpenWorlds fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for OpenWorlds.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to OpenWorlds, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection or privacy claims, and claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and you're not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If you got OpenWorlds from Google Play, Google's terms for Play also apply to your purchase, and Google is not responsible for OpenWorlds.
17. Everything else
Changes. We may update these terms. For significant changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using OpenWorlds afterwards, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, stop using it and cancel your membership.
The whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about OpenWorlds. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies and that part is enforced as far as possible. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given up the right to. You can't transfer these terms; we may transfer them to a company that takes over OpenWorlds.
